Lumen,
Palm Springs

This newly built Palm Springs home offered a blank canvas — a stark, undeveloped side yard with amazing mountain views. The homeowners wanted to transform the space into something both beautiful and functional — a place to relax, reflect, and take in the desert light. They envisioned a space with flow, fragrance and a bit of theatrical flair!

We began by designing a patio to create a usable outdoor room oriented toward the view. A sculptural mesquite tree was added for dappled shade and to anchor the space. From there, a curving path winds through the garden, creating a sense of rhythm and movement — a visual “score” that plays beautifully against the garden’s sculptural forms.

Plantings include bold agaves, rosemary, lavender, and native grasses, all chosen for their fragrance, form, and resilience. Splashes of bougainvillea and pink-toned gravel add contrast, texture and a bit of whimsy. The result is a side yard reimagined — no longer overlooked, but now a lyrical and livable garden retreat.
